Q: Occasionally when I've patched people who are in poor health (e.g. tumors) with Energy Enhancers, they feel suddenly tired. To give a specific example, in a woman with breathing difficulty the patches placed on the Lung 1 points felt suddenly fatigued. Why might this be?
A1 (Dr Haltiwanger, M.D.): The patches might have caused a rapid detoxification; or the body went into 'anabolic repair state', i.e. her body suddenly got the energy it needed to escape from ‘sympathetic overdrive’, and as it started to repair itself the relaxation response kicked in. Part of this response involves melatonin (sleep hormone) production, thus the sleepiness.
A2 (Dr Ryder, Acupuncturist): the patches triggered a major healing effort by the body, explaining the tiredness.
Q: Why is it that Energy Enhancers in some meridian positions give a very energizing, stimulating feeling on a person, whereas patches placed on other positions don't provide any noticeable change in how they feel?
A (Dr Ryder): The body takes in only what it needs from the patches. Thus if a person does not need energy/flow in an area where the patch is placed, they won’t notice a change. When placed on another meridian where they do need energy rebalancing, because that meridian needed it, they feel stimulated, mentally or physically clearer. Unlike with acupuncture needles, you cannot overstimulate or understimulate a meridian with the patches.
Q: When we run energy patches slowly up and down the meridians of participants at demonstration events, some people feel a noticeable tingling sensation in certain areas and others feel nothing. How can that be explained simply?
A (Dr Haltiwanger): Some people are just more sensitive to energy movements in their body than others; some are tuned in and notice their body's subtle changes, and others are quite numb to how they feel physically; this can even vary within one person depending on their state of health.
Q: What might happen if someone accidentally patched the Energy or Icewave pairs in reverse position (white on the left side of the body; tan on the right side)?
A (Dr Haltiwanger): The person would probably just feel tired as the natural flow of bioelectrical energy is being disrupted; encourage users to trust their intuition in placing the patches – if it doesn’t feel good, try something else. Either patch type can be worn on either side of the body in certain instances.
Q: Why do some protocols recommend Carnosine patches be worn alone, while others show Carnosine in combination with other patch types?
A: (Dr Haltiwanger): Carnosine has a slightly sedating effect on overstimulated meridians, and supports anabolic (body building, growth) functions, many of which are naturally active during sleep. Carnosine patches make some people sleepy, others not. They do work well in combination with Energy Enhancers, and other patches as well, depending on the person and their health goals. Wear them at the time of day that suits YOU. Studies are underway to better explain what are the best combinations of each patch type.
Q: How long do the patches last? Do they all last 12 hr?
A (Dr Haltiwanger): How long a particular patch will keep affecting the body depends on the person, what’s being treated, and their health status. Generally speaking, they continue producing an effect for 12 hours on average. There is no harm in leaving them on longer than 12 hr.
